Creating Car Reflection In Photoshop

In this Photoshop tutorial, you are going to create a realistic car reflection in Photoshop. It’s a neat trick if you can learn it. It’ll take some practice to get a few adjustments just right. Like the skew, for example, may seem like an ordinary tool but it’ll certainly give you a little trouble if you are a beginner. On the whole, you’ll find you’re learning something new here and in the end you are well able to pull off a beautiful reflection of something special, like this amazing car.
1. Open whatever image you would like to work on in Photoshop. This is the image we will be using for this tutorial:
2. Because you need more space to create a full car reflection… move the whole image a bit up using the Move Tool. Refer to the image below:
3. Create a new layer.
4. Fill this layer with # 797979
5. Drag this new layer below the background layer.
6. Now go back to the background layer.
7. Set the Foreground and Background colors as Black and White, respectively.
What you want to do is to blend both layers so that they appear as one. The highlighted part in the image below marks their clear distinction which you do not want.
8. Select the Gradient tool and modify its settings as shown in the image below:
9. Add a layer mask to your background layer.
10. Now apply the Gradient tool on the layer mask.
This should blend the two layers perfectly.
11. Select the car using any of the selection tools available to you.
(The Quick selection tool works great)
12. Now press CTRL + J
13. A new layer consisting of only your car will be created. Name this layer as Temporary.
14. Go to: Edit Transform > Flip Vertical
15. Use the Lasso Tool to select only one side of this car (not the front). You will create the car reflection of the two sides in separate steps.
16. Press CTRL + J to create a new layer. Name this layer as Side Reflection.
17. Now switch off the Temporary layer.
18. Press CTRL + T and right click to select Skew.  Adjust the Side Reflection layer wheel to wheel with the original image. See below:
19. Switch off the Side Reflection layer.
20. Now switch on the Temporary layer.
21. Now use the Lasso Tool to select the front side of the car and follow the same procedure as for the side reflection above.
22. Name the new layer created as Front Reflection.
23. Now switch off the Temporary layer for good.
24. And switch on both, the Side Reflection and the Front Reflection layers.
25. As you can see, the two layers are n’t yet properly aligned with each other. There still needs more adjustment. So you are to do some Photoshop magic. That is, you must add alayer mask to the Side Reflection layer.
26. Set the Foreground and Background colors as black and white, respectively.
27. Select the Brush tool and modify its settings as shown in the image below:
28. Apply the brush tool carefully so as to get a result exactly like that shown below:
29. Merge the two layers, Side Reflection and Front Reflection, making a single new layer. Name this layer as Car Reflection.
30. Now add layer mask to the Car Reflection layer.
31. Set the Foreground and Background colors to Black and White, respectively.
32. Select the Gradient tool and modify its settings as shown in the image below:
33. Apply the gradient tool on your layer mask. See the image below:
34. Change the Opacity of the Car Reflection to 90%.
35. Create a new layer.
36. Set the Foreground and Background colors to Black and White, respectively.
37. Select the Gradient tool and modify its settings as shown in the image below:
38. Apply the gradient tool on your new layer. See the image below:
That’s it, babe.
